Worcester extended a lunchtime welcome to the MassBike Tour on the next-to-last
day of the weeklong bike trip around the state, and local officials briefed the cyclists on
area bike projects. Two hundred safety-certified bike helmets in children's and adults' sizes
were sold for $5 each, fitted by health professionals from UMass Memorial Health Care, courtesy
of UMMHC's Children's Medical Center. Models of Major Taylor statue designs, by five artists who
are finalist candidates to create the statue, were unveiled, and people cast votes for their
favorites. This event raised approximately $1,600 for the Major Taylor statue fund.
