New Arts Foundry first made a rubber mold, or "negative," from the clay
sculpture. Then a thin layer of melted wax was poured into the mold to make
a hollow "positive." Here, in November 2006, the torso is shown in hardened
wax at the foundry. Next, a ceramic shell will be made around the wax
pieces, inside and out. Then the wax will be melted out and replaced with
molten bronze. After the metal hardens, the shell will be broken off to
reveal the bronze statue.
